Ever wonder why humans cling to old traditions like they’re sacred relics, even when those traditions are about as useful as a mosquito screen on a submarine? We treat culture, religion, and tradition like untouchable pillars of society. But let’s be real… most of this shit ain’t sacred, it’s outdated garbage. Some of it isn’t just dumb; it’s downright dangerous, inhumane, racist, or whatever fuck else.
Take a good, hard look at some of the cultural highlights humanity’s been dragging around for centuries.
Female Genital Mutilation: Humanity’s Collective Brain Rot
Some traditions are so fucked up that they almost defy belief. Case in point: female genital mutilation. This isn’t some ancient horror confined to history books; it’s happening right now. Girls as young as seven are held down and mutilated by people with zero medical training (not that if they had any fucking medical training would have justified this fucking nonsense). Why? To “preserve purity” or some bullshit like that.
Imagine explaining this to someone from another planet: “Yeah, we cut off parts of little girls’ bodies to make sure they conform to societal norms.” They’d think we’re insane. And they’d be damn right to attack our fucking planet, as we have seen in numerous movies!
Child Marriage: The Gift That Keeps on Taking
Here’s another gem from humanity’s bag of terrible ideas: marrying off children. In some places, “tradition” dictates that girls barely old enough to read should be handed over to men old enough to have limp dicks. These kids lose their education, their autonomy, and often their lives. But hey, at least the family’s “honor” is intact, right? Fuck that and fuck you if you believe it. If your honor depends on destroying a child’s future, your honor isn’t worth shit.
The Caste System: India’s Millennia-Old Disaster
Now let’s talk about India, that “world’s largest democracy” everyone likes to brag about. What no one likes to mention is that this so-called democracy runs on a social hierarchy so backward it makes medieval Europe look progressive. The caste system is one of the longest-running human rights disasters in history. And yes, it’s still alive and well.
Dalits, formerly known as “untouchables,” are the permanent underclass. They’re denied education, decent jobs, healthcare, and basic dignity, all because of some arbitrary social order cooked up ages ago.
Let’s Play the Assdolf Shitler Hypothetical… imagine if someone conveniently called Assdolf Shitler had been born thousands of years ago. Imagine his “cleansing” campaign wasn’t a concentrated historical horror but instead evolved into a long-standing tradition of “purifying humanity.” Over time, it becomes less about mass extermination and more about a subtle, systemic form of dehumanization. Laws outlaw the most egregious parts, but the core idea that some people are inherently less sticks around.
Fast forward to today. Millions of people are subjected to figurative gas chambers every day through systemic discrimination, poverty, and violence. And the world just shrugs. “Oh, it’s tradition. It’s part of their culture. It is what it is. They chose that life.”
Sound insane? Welcome to the caste system. Dalits are the modern-day victims of this institutionalized shitshow. If the world can universally condemn genocidal regimes, why the fuck are we okay with a caste system that’s essentially a millennia-old version of the same thing? Just because it’s older doesn’t make it less evil. It just means we’ve been screwing this up for a lot longer.
The Big Question: Why Are We Still Like This?
Tradition is nothing but peer pressure from dead people. And yet, we’re so scared to question it. We’d rather cling to ancient bullshit than admit that maybe, just maybe, our ancestors got some things horribly wrong.
Here’s the truth: just because something’s been around for centuries doesn’t mean it’s worth keeping. Tuberculosis has been around forever, too, and no one’s out here trying to preserve that.
Let’s Start a New Tradition (So I’m Not Against Traditions After All)
So here’s an idea: instead of blindly worshiping the past, let’s fucking learn from it. Let’s throw out the clearly harmful shit, like the caste system, child marriage, and FGM. Let’s build a world where tradition isn’t an excuse for oppression and culture isn’t a cage.
Because if humanity has one job, it’s this: do better. And we can’t do better until we torch the crap holding us back. Figuratively, of course. We’re not savages anymore. Or at least, we shouldn’t be.
I don’t respect people’s beliefs. Beliefs, especially when steeped in cultural, traditional, or religious idiocy, aren’t inherently deserving of respect. What I do respect is people’s choice to believe in whatever deluded, archaic nonsense they want to cling to. You want to believe the Earth is flat? Knock yourself out. Think your God hates shellfish or wants you to mutilate your kid for the sake of “purity”? Fine, that’s your choice. But don’t expect me or anyone else to bow down and treat these beliefs as sacred or immune to criticism. Respecting your right to believe isn’t the same as respecting the belief itself.
Here’s the thing: beliefs that harm, oppress, or perpetuate injustice deserve scrutiny, not deference. I can tolerate your right to believe the sky is green, but I’ll be damned if I have to pretend it’s not blue just to spare your fucking feelings. And if your belief system actively causes harm, if it keeps people in chains, justifies discrimination, or perpetuates ignorance, then, frankly, it deserves to be ripped the fuck apart.
